FOR MEMBERS ONLYWe are looking for a song that focuses specifically on our mission to unite progressives. Ideally it should express in some fashion the reason for uniting as well, i.e., to take back our country, to achieve representation for human rights and equality, and to organize as a constituency for the values we believe in (as opposed to the pretty candidates we support). We strongly suggest a careful review of our mission statement, our platform, and our values, which are identified on the top menu of our website United Progressives.org. A. All songs which are submitted for review for our anthem will be posted online at our website UnitedProgressives.org, and all of you will be asked to vote on your favorite. Some form of voting mechanism will be made available so that you can vote, and you will be able to see the results of voting on each submission. B. The song which receives the most number of votes will be selected as our anthem. This will be constructed so that no one may vote more than once, but such software devices are not foolproof, and we will try to monitor this carefully. C. We are looking for original work from songwriters, not songs that have been previously recorded and copyrighted. If you are a songwriter, or know of a songwriter who is progressive and understands our mission, then we would love to hear from you. D. We will reserve the right to cancel this contest if we believe that the submissions are too few or the quality of the submissions does not meet our own sense of aesthetics or standards. We may include the "Cancel contest" or "none of the above" as an additional option in voting so that you can make this choice yourself. We want all actions taken by United Progressives to be democratic, and we hope to include you in all decisions we make. E. Deadline for submissions has not been established and depends upon how quickly submissions come in and how quickly we can have the voting software available. For the time being, an arbitrary deadline will be May 30, 2010. F. please email the song as an attachment to songcontest@unitedprogress |

of my dreams
did not discourage me

"We have to be willing to tell the hard truth about the power we have to corrupt the most pure, most sublime recognition of truth.
You can't finally tell the truth through the mind, because the mental process is busy with damage control. But there are a few questions you can ask to support truth telling, and you can deeply examine and ruthlessly, often painfully, answer them.
The questions are, 'What is my life standing for?' What has it stood for?' 'What is the deepest call for my life to stand for?' All you have to do is be really willing to look very carefully and see." - Gangaji
